ER&GE's products do not require mandatory registrationThe new European chemical regulations, REACH came into force on 1st July 2007. The regulations cover the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals, with a view to protecting health and the environment. The regulations require all manufacturers and importers of substances of more than a tonne's worth of annual production that fall within the ambit of the regulations, to register the said substances before they are imported or released. The necessary pre-registration information must be submitted within six month's from 1st June 2007. All substances requiring registration must therefore be registered with the specially created REACH body ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) in Helsinki by 1st December 2008. Polymers such as PP and PE however, do not fall within the ambit of REACH. Nonetheless, as a precautionary measure, ER&GE tests all fillers and compounds that are added to polymers in order to achieve specific product characteristics, such as pigments and flame protection agents. We do not however, anticipate any fundamental alteration in terms of mandatory registration. Should the certification of any of our materials change at a later date, we will of course inform customers without delay. Please go to the HSE reach pages for more information on REACH. |
